On Jubilee night, a clear starry sky above, we walked up the hill behind the house to the field chosen for the local beacon – a crackling bonfire with an intense light to carry across the valley. A simple crowd had gathered and we looked south to see a line of similar patches of intense yellow light stretching along the ridge some five to ten miles from us towards the sea. The image was set in me and within 24 hours converted to oil board.
